Winrae Production Sale 2007

Females were in strong demand at the combined Winrae and Southern Cross Dorper Studs production sale, held at the Warialda Showgrounds, September 15 2007. The Dorpers on offer presented some of the best genetics in Australia as signified by the inclusion of several Dubbo National Show winners, and although the drought kept western volume buyers away, a continuing demand for high quality female genetics caught the buyer's attention on the day.
The sale represented sheep from two Warialda studs: the Pagett family's Winrae Stud, and Alan & Raylee Clark's Southern Cross Stud.
Eighteen of the twenty joined and unjoined purebred ewes sold to a top of $1250 at an average of $783 with the two passed in lots snapped up soon after the sale.
Royce, Fiona & Catherine Holtkamp, Horizon Dorper Stud Tamworth, bought the top priced Winrae ewe. The rising 14 month old ewe Winrae 060604 was by the stud ram Kaya Big Al 037094 and was scanned in lamb to Winrae 050258. The Holtkamps paid $900 for a second unjoined ewe by Amarula Rifle 020243.
Of the rams,13 sold out of 59 offered to an average of $673, and top of $2400 for one of the studs' dual owned stud sires, "Big Al". Big Al features a Carcase Plus Index of +167 and hs excellent conformation, length and muscling were among the attractions to his new dual owners, Warren Bayliss, "Kanangra", Duri & Terry Balla, "Merlin", Attunga. Mr Bayliss bought another ram for $750 and four ewes that topped at $850 and averaged $725. Mr Balla bought one $700 ram and five ewes that topped at $850 and averaged $670.
