Organic Lamb

At Winrae we run 4000 shedding Dorper cross ewes, predominately 6th cross and above. We sell our organic Dorper lambs at an average of 45 kilos live weight and they are sold to organic buyers from companies like Cleavers Meats and any surplus lambs go to the domestic market which are sold by us over the hook direct to the abattoirs.

Our ewes are pregnancy scanned and joined every March and September or as the seasons allow when it gets dry. We don’t wean our ewe lambs and we have found through experience that the mothers will naturally wean them and the ewe lambs won’t get pregnant until they reach around 45kilo live weight. We run our older ewes and maidens together in the same paddock and we use sustainable grazing practices to ensure adequate ground cover and feed in all our paddocks.   

We join all our ewes with Stud rams to ensure the quality of our lamb is the highest it can be and to maintain consistency in the flock.

We also sell excess Dorper cross ewes through-out the year and in our annual on-property sale.
